Slow Fishing On Saturday but Red Hot in Flamingo....

Hey there faithful readers,

Just wanted to give you an update of what happened on Saturday. I got a call from Capt. Gil Gutierrez from Lucky Fishing Charters around 4:30pm Friday and told me to be at the marina at 7am. Well I got there right at 7am to meet up with Gil, Eric, and Fred. We were off after busting each others balls about what we brought for lunch. We started looking for bait in North Biscayne Bay. The bait was incredible. We caught all sorts of baits inside the bay including a couple of Goggle Eyes. After blacking out the livewell we were off.

We headed out of Haulover inlet at 9am and headed south to the Diamonds. We were met with uncooperative waves ranging between 3-5ft, coming mostly out of the east. There was green water all the way out to about 250-300ft of water. We set up the first couple of drifts around 200ft and nothing happened. A couple of more drifts and again nothing. Overall it was an extremely slow day on the water. We caught a Red Grouper and a small Kingfish and Mutton. We did hear of reports of people releasing Sails further south but we decided to stick it out in front.

We're hoping that once this winds dies down and the waters clear up a bit we can got out and do some diving for some lobsters. The fishing has been slow and we can almost expect the offshore fishing to be slow up until late November.

The inshore fishing on the other hand seemed to be red hot. Captain Jim Hobales of Caught Looking Charters was in Flamingo this past weekend and said he released over 20 Snook, numerous Tarpons, Reds, and Trout.

I think it's best to either go Diving or go Shallow...See you next time...

No Fishing with Hurricanes

Well that's it. There hasn't been much fishing these past couple of weeks with all the hurricanes coming close to Florida. The wind has been howling for the past couple of weeks and it seems like it's never going to stop. We did, however, have a break in the rain and crappy weather and Club Member and Charter Capt. Jim Hobales, was able to jump 8 tarpon and caught numerous jacks, trouts, and snappers in North Biscayne Bay last weekend. The mullet runs are in full force and with it brings the feeding frenzy that we all like to see. Some of us will try to get out there this weekend and we'll post a report as soon as we get back.

The club is scheduling numerous Charter Boat Captains specializing in sailfish tournaments. We'd like to set up an annual how-to Sailfish Tournament School with the best captains in the game. Make sure you stay posted for future dates and captain guest appearances.

Till then, tight lines!
